The Green River, it’s Gorges!

On Saturday Lowell took me on a 32 mile loop around Maple Valley, Washington.
The weather was cloudy and low 60s and I complained just for the sake of it. Truthfully, the temperature was perfect for riding. Just like the roads out here!
Here I am at the middle of a single-lane bridge across the Green River […]

Alberto Contador, Tour de France Revelation

Team Discovery is finding a replacement to Lance Armstrong in young Spaniard Alberto Contador.
His ability to match the super-human climbing ability of ‘chicken-legs’ Michael Rasmussen on the last climb of today’s HC climb to Plateau de Beille, previously dominated by the legendary Marco Pantani and Armstrong himself, shows that Leipheimer’s estimation is true; Contador is […]

Black Bear Sighted on Goat Mountain

Last Saturday I came seconds away from crossing the path of a Black Bear.
I was mountain biking down the Spring Cove single track on the northern slope of Goat Mountain above Bass Lake. Just before the trail widens above the fire access road I heard crashing in the brush to my left. A giant […]

My Day at the Landis Arbitration

I was surprised to read in USA Today’s weekend edition that the Floyd Landis arbitration hearings would run through Saturday.
Like a proper cycling fanatic I knew that Floyd had successfully petitioned for the hearings to be public so I drove the 30 miles to Pepperdine University to see what I could see.
I parked outside the […]

1986 Profile of 7-11 Cycling Team

As little as 10 years ago American cycling fans had to get their television coverage wherever they could find it. That usually meant 30 minutes a night on ESPN or brief weekend recaps on programs like ABC’s Wide World of Sports.
What those segments lacked in length they more than made up for in emotion. […]

As recorded last night (April 28) on the Midnight Ridazz ride through North Hollywood, Burbank, Valley Village, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and Van Nuys.

US Mountain Bike Champion Recovering From Serious Neck Injury

John Fisher, Oakhurst area mountain biker and 2006 Mountain Bike National Champion (Expert Men 40-44 Downhill), is recovering in Fresno from a spinal cord injury he received during a skiing accident in January.

A benefit dinner is planned for next Saturday, March 17 at the Golden Chain Theatre in Oakhurst.
According to John Fisher’s myspace page he’s […]

FRS Plus Boosts Team Discovery

Team Discovery’s George Hincapie reminded me to drink FRS yesterday by email. And today Lance announced he’s doing a TV spot for the energy drink.

Of course FRS Plus has my endorsement for free. Their energy chews were the thing getting me through the Leipzig Games Convention last year, not to mention long rides in […]

Swobo is Biting My Style

The Otis street bike in Swobo’s bike line (unveiled today) looks oddly familiar. They must have seen me busting the pavement out in Santa Monica because they’ve reproduced it pretty closely. Check the color, 26 inch rims with slicks, even the frame geometry!
Well at least I didn’t sell out to the fixie cabal and […]

Acura L.A. Bike Tour, Hardest Ride of the Year!

Yes, it’s true. The 20 mile Acura Los Angeles Bike Tour ranks up there as one of the most difficult rides I’ve ever done. Here’s why:
Saturday Registration

Packets aren’t sent out by mail so I have to drive to downtown Los Angeles in traffic. 16 mile round trip takes 90 minutes. Al Gore couldn’t be […]
